Calypso Paikea Rhyder was born at 29 weeks 5 days and was 3 lbs 1.9 oz and 13" long. She died 23 days old from kidney failure as a complication of NEC. NEC is an intestinal infection named Necrotizing Enterocolitis. It is a very common infection in preemies but no one realized actually how severe and deadly it is.
20 days after Calypso died my cousin Ryan who was a SSGT in the Army was killed in action outside of Kamu Afghanistan. RIP William Ryan Fritsche
